Braking Bad

Having bad brakes is extremely dangerous and scary for all those involved, from the driver to the passenger to those on the road around you. However, you don’t always know that your brakes are in poor shape until it’s too late.

Even so, there are some warning signs that you can be on the lookout for to let you know your brakes could be in need of repair:

1). The brake indicator light on the dashboard lights up an amber color. This tells you that there’s a problem with the anti-lock brake system, or the ABS.

2). The brake indicator light on the dashboard lights up red. This would indicate that the system is imbalanced.

3). The brake pedal feels somewhat spongy or slower to respond than usual. Sometimes, it will even feel as though it’s “stuck.” Always remain conscious enough while driving to tell these sorts of subtle differences. You should know your own car like the back of your hand.

4). You hear grinding or constant squealing while¬†braking. Whether you knew this or not, it should usually be a pretty obvious indication that there’s a problem to be fixed.

If ever you experience any of these particular problems, you should quickly go in somewhere to get your brakes checked. You can take your car to your mechanic or simply stop at a quick shop, like 10 Minute Oil Change. Of course, as with any car maintenance, always get an estimate before allowing them to so much as touch your vehicle. This way, you have a reference point to go off of.
